The pandemic has shown us the ugly force of reality in real time. Young adults are forced to adjust to a significant change without room to react and process. This brings forth feelings of delusion, dissociation, and escapism as means to cope. Already, many people indulge in fantasies through other forms of media. With this in mind, the mood board needed to replicate those feelings of despair and illusion. The majority of the images were saved through Pinterest and Vogue. The work became divided among the four of us.

Colors

I took control of choosing the colors for this forecast. The approach for the color palettes was simple. Color psychology came into play when hues of yellow and pink depicted warm, youthful, optimism and colors. Innocence and optimism roam the air when skies become full of bright and vivacious tints. People in society lose control of their own emotions in exchange for the infinite changes made in our lives and will grasp onto any form of happiness, which explains the hues of blues and purples.

Prints and Patterns

This area of the project required us to search for prints and patterns that displayed a mix of chaos and tranquility. The Patchwork pattern example consists of various colors, in hopes of the remaining structure while the crescent swirls act as an illusion of control through the aura of colors. While lighter shades of purple have more light-hearted meanings, darker shades of purple symbolize sadness, frustration, and decadence in Thunderstorm marble. The Psychedelic Chaos has a blurred effect and the use of teal with its complementary hue, pink, offers pleasant havoc.

Conclusion and Outcome

Dreamland Dysphoria reflects the struggle of staying grounded in a period where tragedy continues to increase. Reality is fluid and can be interpreted in various directions, however, imagination still takes the reign and tries to mold reality into a new image. Many forms of media have made it so others become addicted to grasping a sense of comfort through online validation, denial, and parasocial relationships with fiction. Through this process, I sharpen my photoshop skills while having a short period of time to relearn certain skills again. I was able to lead a team for the first time and I was proud of how every time came together in the end, even through frustration and last-minute changes.
